Why State Rates exists

Across the healthcare industry, Medicaid reimbursement is a blindspot. Every state sets its own rates and methodology, which are scattered across fee schedules, PDFs, half-complete spreadsheet calculators, and policy manuals. Getting definitive, fresh pricing is deceptively difficult. From consultancies to health tech organizations to providers themselves, rooms let out a collective sigh when the intricacies of Medicaid pricing are brought up.

I've spent my career in healthcare data product and revenue cycle management, and have been in those rooms. At every stop, the same gap. There was no source of truth for what Medicaid actually pays. Organizations might have their own manually-maintained, intricate calculator, or just a resident and invaluable “Texas Medicaid expert.” But nobody had mapped out the full picture.

State Rates is building that map, one state at a time. We read the policy manuals, ingest rates as they're posted, no matter what shape they take, and package it all for you.

Let us do the hard part.

How we work

  • Primary sources only. Every rate comes from the state's own publications, ingested as published, dated, and versioned.
  • Methodology, not just numbers. A rate without the calculation behind it is a guess. We show our work on every result.
  • One state at a time, done properly. A state doesn't launch until every edge case is pressure-tested, matching any policies, files, or calculators a state posts.
